Dear Valued Customers,
ADDENDUM: CONGESTION RECOVERY SURCHARGE – SOUTH AFRICA
We have entered into the second week of the industrial action that was initiated as of Monday the 10th of May across all South African ports and railways. This has had a significant and serious impact on shipping lines, resulting in congestion and a backlog of container operations. The consequences of this are expected to be felt for some time. We have no wish to add to the burden of already frustrated customers, but it is unavoidable that given the need to sustain viable services, as well as the need to recover costs incurred over this period, MISC Berhad has little choice but to implement a Congestion Recovery Surcharge of USD 60 per TEU.
The above surcharge will be applicable to all containers loaded and discharged in South African ports, and will be for the account of the freight payer.
Exports: This will relate to any export container "gated in" to local POL (including City Deep) effective from and including 21 May 2010.
Imports: This will relate to any container "gated in" at foreign POL and destined for South Africa with effective vessel voyage, HLE 002W.
As always, we will continue to monitor the current situation, as well as the expectant recovery, to ascertain the duration and withdrawal/suspension of this charge.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Should you have further queries, please contact our local office.
Thank you.
